CATALOGUE AND BIBLIOGRAPHY DIFFERENCE
Catalogue and bibliography are of synonymous terms indicating list of books or documents but there lies a basic difference between this two terms
1. Catalogue is a list of books available in a particular library or libraries on the other hand bibliography is a list of documents published either by author or subject or on a geographical entity
2. Catalogue shows the location of the document in which particular library document will be available or not but bibliography does not shows the location of document .It is merely a list of generalized collection and not a particular collection
3. Catalogue is indicated by its call number and accession number but bibliography is followed by its class number not by accession number
4. catalogue is followed by code such as (AACR2R ,CCC, RDC etc) but bibliography does not follow any code
5. In case of catalogue potency ( strength) of document mainly lies on author , title ,subject or call number because user may use these type of technique for location of document , but in bibliography potency mainly lies on its imprint because it informs about the production or existence of document
6 In case of catalogue different types of documents find its place but in bibliography all types of document do not find their place viz in INB , BNB( Map, Atlas guide to text book,Ephemeral materials are not recorded for bibliographic information)
.7 Example of catalogue : WORLD CAT CATALOGUE , NUCCSSI , NSOU ONLINE CATALOGUE
. Bibliography e.g : INB , BNB , TRADE CATALOGUE etc
